The Impenetrable Forest

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park covers 321 square kilometers of pristine rainforest, straddling altitudes from 1,160m to 2,607m at the edge of the Albertine Rift Valley. This UNESCO World Heritage site is aptly named for its thick, challenging terrain that creates a natural fortress for its precious inhabitants.

Getting There

By Air

Fly to Kihihi or Kisoro airstrips with Aerolink, Bar Aviation, or KEA. Kihihi serves Buhoma and Ruhija sectors, while Kisoro serves Nkuringo and Rushaga sectors.

By Road

From Kampala via Mbarara (7-8 hours), from Kabale (1-2 hours), or from Queen Elizabeth NP (2-3 hours). 4x4 vehicle recommended, especially during rainy season.

Public Transport

Buses from Kampala via Rukungiri and Kihihi to Butogota. From Butogota, hire a matatu to Buhoma park entrance gate.
